Effective Search Engine Marketing
Search engine marketing is necessary if you want your website to be within the the first page, let alone the the top of a search engine keyword search. The internet is becoming more and more complex and unfortunately, if you do not optimize your website for search engines, although you might think you should be number one for a given search term, without optimization, others who are more sophisticated than you, will take your place, - - and your sales.
Many companies do not think they need to perform search engine marketing. They type their business name into Google, and voila they are the first link. But this only lets the company's website get visitors from those who already know that that business exists. SEM is less concerned about this, and more concerned about all your other webpages besides the obvious front page.
Take a look at your website data and observe how many visitors enter through the front and through secondary pages. This can tell you alot about how people are finding you on the web.
Are you a company that sells products? If you were to type a specific product that you sell into a search engine, where on the list of results is your website listed? Wouldn't it be nice to be on the first page? How many more qualified visitors would be browsing your products?
The same goes for a company that provides a service. Wouldn't it be nice if you typed your service/location into a search engine and coming up first in the listings? For example, if your company provides cleaning services, located in Miami - typing in "cleaning service in Miami", how many more sales do you think you would get if you the first link as opposed to the eigth, or fifteenth?
This is what search engine marketing is about.
There are many strategies to try to get your site to the top of a search engine list, some good (legitmate) and some bad (illegitimate). But one of the best and easiest ways of getting more web presense is by writing articles about what you sell. If you are an expert about your product or service, it should be quite easy to think of, and write some articles with the knowledge you have.
So for example, if you sell widgets, putting artciles on your website such as - the history of the widget, how widgets are made, widgets in other cultures, cool things that you can do with a widget, etc. Basically writing informative articles about the product you sell. By adding these kinds of articles to your site, you increase your visibility on the web. Combining this technique with Article Marketing, and you will see a rise in the number of visitors to your site.
The main way people find your site is through a search engine, so you need to think about search engine marketing in order to be seen.
Everyone wants to be first on that Google search. SEM is the set of techniques to get you there.
