Door Hanger Advertising Marketing Idea

Door hanger advertising is not as frequently seen as door bag advertising, mainly due to the cost effectiveness of its delivery. One bag can hold many ads whereas on a door knob hanger, you can really place only two sets of advertising (one on each side).

However, this article is not about door knob hangers in general, but it is a specific use for door hanger marketing.

Many small businesses work onsite at residential addresses. A very simple idea for using door hanger advertising is that after you have completed a job, go down the block three or four houses each way, perhaps crossing the street as well, placing a door hanger at each address.

An important aspect of the ad is to put your normal advertising information but also a line written out that says something similar to:

"[Your Company Name] has just completed a job at [blank address]"

You can then write in the actual address on the card before you put them on the door knobs. You can ask the original customer if it ok to put their address down. Otherwise just put the street name instead.

No, it is not a mass marketing technique in any way, as you will only be placing about ten to fifteen hangers, but it only takes a maximum of ten extra minutes to do after you have already completed a job onsite. Before you (or your employees) get into the truck and leave the area, itreally is not a difficult thing to do. Just leave a pile of door hanger ads in the truck.

You see, one of the interesting things about our city/suburban neighborhoods is that neighbors don't talk to each other as much as they used to. They might not always talk to each other concerning the contractors that they have used to fix the plumbing, etc.

By placing these door hangers on neighbors' doors, it's almost the same as word of mouth adverting. If I know that my neighbor used a certain contractor then it is highly possible that I may use that same contractor later on, even if it is years later. A level of trust has already been established.

This of course hinges on the fact that you need to have done a good job. If I speak to my neighbor and he is unsatisfied with your work, then don't expect a call from me.

Small businesses that can use this marketing idea can be basically any contractor that perform work onsite such as plumbers, electricians, landscapers, roofers, carpets installers, etc.

But if you are certain that you have done a good job and that the customer is satisfied (and you can obviously gauge this before you leave by talking with the customer), then it's a good bet that by letting the neighbors know of your company's work nearby is also a very good marketing strategy.
